If you’ve spent any time exploring the sun-baked dunes and hidden ruins of Sumeru’s desert region, you’ve probably picked up a handful of Luna Sigils without knowing what to do with them. I had 8 of these glowing purple sigils sitting in my inventory for almost three weeks before I stumbled on their first use, and I wasted a few more before I figured out the best way to spend them. If you’re wondering where to use Luna Sigil Genshin Impact, this guide breaks down every valid location, reward tier, and common mistake to avoid so you get the most value out of every sigil you collect.
Where to Use Luna Sigil Genshin Impact: Core Location Breakdown
Luna Sigils have two main uses, both exclusive to the Sumeru desert region, so you don’t have to waste time checking other nations for spots to turn them in. The first and highest-priority spot is the Altar of Mirages, which you unlock during the early parts of the “The Foolish Fatuus” world quest in the Desert of Hadramaveth. This altar works like the Sacred Sakura in Inazuma or Tree of Dreams in the Sumeru rainforest, offering tiered rewards for every batch of sigils you offer. If you're still not sure where to use Luna Sigil Genshin Impact, start with this altar first, it gives the best possible rewards by far.
The second use is at the 10 Primal Obelisks scattered across the three Sumeru desert subregions: Hypostyle Desert, Land of Lower Setekh, and Desert of Hadramaveth. Each obelisk requires 10 Luna Sigils to activate, and unlocking it opens a hidden room nearby with a rare chest and other exclusive items. You don’t have to complete any special quests to use these obelisks, but some are tucked behind locked doors that you’ll need to solve puzzles to access.
If you’re trying to prioritize your sigil use for the best rewards, follow this order:
What Rewards You Can Earn From Using Luna Sigils
A lot of new players skip using Luna Sigils because they assume the rewards are just basic mora or common upgrade items, but that’s far from the truth. I’ve collected and used all 420 currently available Luna Sigils in the game, so I can confirm the rewards are well worth the time you spend collecting the sigils.
The Altar of Mirages offers tiered rewards as you offer more sigils, up to a total of 300. The highlights include 50 primogems at 20 sigils, 3 Intertwined Fates at 50 sigils, a full set of 3-star Sumeru talent books at 100 sigils, a random 5-star piece from the Desert Pavilion Chronicle artifact set at 200 sigils, and the aforementioned Crown of Insight at 300 sigils. You’ll also get thousands of mora and weapon ascension materials as you hit each tier, so even the smaller rewards add up fast.
Each Primal Obelisk you unlock gives you either a Precious or Luxurious chest, with rewards ranging from 10 to 40 primogems, plus weapon ascension materials for Sumeru desert weapons like the Key of Khaj-Nisut and Wandering Evenstar. Unlocking all 10 obelisks also gives you a hidden achievement called “Secrets of the Obelisks” which gives an extra 20 primogems, plus access to several view points that count towards your 100% exploration progress for the desert.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Using Luna Sigils
I made a ton of avoidable mistakes when I first started using my Luna Sigils, so I want to save you from the same frustration. The biggest mistake most players make is spending sigils on Primal Obelisks before they unlock the Altar of Mirages. The Altar has far better rewards than any obelisk, so always keep 300 sigils saved for it until you’ve claimed all its rewards.
Another common mistake is forgetting to pick up Luna Sigils after opening chests. Unlike mora or enhancement ore, Luna Sigils don’t automatically get added to your inventory when you open a chest, you have to manually click on them to collect them. I lost at least 12 sigils early on because I was rushing through opening chests and didn’t notice the sigil drops sitting on the ground.
You also don’t need to hoard all your sigils until you’ve collected every single one available. As long as you keep 300 set aside for the Altar, you can spend any extra sigils on obelisks as you find them. You can’t trade Luna Sigils for other sigil types, so don’t waste time trying to use them at the Tree of Dreams, Sacred Sakura, or Liyue’s Geo Sigil shop, they won’t work there.
How to Farm Extra Luna Sigils If You Run Out
There are 420 total Luna Sigils available in the game right now, which is more than enough to unlock all Altar of Mirages rewards and all 10 Primal Obelisks, so you won’t run out permanently if you collect all of them. If you’re a few sigils short of a reward tier you want though, there are a few easy ways to farm extra ones fast.
First, finish any uncompleted desert world quests. The Golden Slumber and “Old Notes and New Friends” quest chains give 10-20 Luna Sigils each as completion rewards, plus they unlock more areas of the desert where you can find additional sigils. Most shorter side quests in the desert also give 2-5 sigils each, so knock those out first if you’re only missing a few.
Second, use the in-game Exploration Compass to find unopened chests in the desert. Every chest you open in the desert, from common to luxurious, gives 1-3 Luna Sigils, so even finding 10 unopened common chests can give you enough sigils to hit your next reward tier. Time trial challenges and hidden puzzles like torch puzzles and Primal Construct challenges also give chests with sigils as rewards, so keep an eye out for those as you explore.
At the end of the day, figuring out where to use Luna Sigil Genshin Impact doesn’t have to be a confusing, time-consuming process. Just prioritize the Altar of Mirages first, then spend any extra sigils on Primal Obelisks as you explore the desert, and you’ll get all the possible rewards in no time. I got enough primogems from my sigil rewards for a 10-pull on a limited banner, plus a Crown of Insight to level up Nahida’s burst talent, so it’s definitely worth taking the time to collect and use all your sigils. If you’re still stuck on finding a specific obelisk or missing sigils, take your time exploring the desert, it’s full of hidden surprises you might miss if you rush through.
